MUsIC MAGIC MYTH
ARTS LAB RESIDENCY PROPOSITION
LA BRICHE - LOIRE VALLEY
You’re being invited to participate in something that has been quietly evolving in the Loire Valley for the past two years. What began as a boutique festival has revealed itself to be far more than we originally imagined—a live laboratory where the boundaries between artist and participant, creation and communion, dissolve into something unprecedented.
You're being invited to participate in an ongoing experiment in creative collaboration. In these industrial ruins—where 19th-century capitalist dreams crumbled into fertile ground—we've discovered that when artists gather with genuine intention to explore and create together, something alchemical happens.
Each year, we witness new alliances forge themselves, hear music that could only emerge from this collective resonance, and watch every participant walk away fundamentally transformed. Your artistic practice won't just be presented here—it will become part of a larger organism, contributing to an experience that none of us could create alone.
We've stopped calling it a festival because that's not what it is. It's a residency. An experiment. A rare chance to be fully present with your art and with others who take creativity as seriously as you do.
Welcome to the IV edition of Music Magic Myth
Here's how it works: La Briche opens its doors for two weeks in May. You're welcome to join us for any portion of that time. The four central days (May 7-10) resemble a classic festival gathering and we invite a select group of friends and allies to witness and engage with the work that emerges from our laboratory. There's a traditional lineup during these days and you are invited to share past or present works in whatever form feels appropriate. But this isn't about hiring performers to please an audience—it's about supporting artists to explore their practice within our collaborative ecosystem.
We provide food and accommodation for your entire stay, contribute toward your travel costs, and offer you five free days at La Briche at any future time of your choosing. The past two editions have functioned loosely within these parameters but we’ve decided it's time to codify the offering. While this may all seem strange at first we believe we’ve found a way to create the perfect conditions for genuine artistic exploration to flourish without the pressures of commercial transaction. If you have any questions or doubts feel free to peruse the page of past alumni and ask them about their experience, our team is also available to answer any questions or allay any fears.
You've been chosen because you're ready for this kind of creative communion. The question is: are you ready to say yes?
THE EXPERIENCE
THE SPARK - MAY 1-7
La Briche transforms into a creative construction site as we collectively build the container for our ritual. This is your chance to shape the physical and energetic spaces—buliding stages, creating art installations and helping with the general preparations like laying down power lines or preparing food. You will also have space to refine your contributions with dedicated rehearsal times, opportunities to meet with sound and lighting engineers as well as a pool of potential collaborators in the form of fellow residents. This is also your chance to tune into the non-human residents of the space and weave them into your creations, take a walk in the forest, make some field recordings and talk to the birds.
THE FLAME - MAY 7 - 10
The space opens with fire that burns continuously throughout the weekend. Here, everyone presents their work through a traditional lineup, but within the context of collective ceremony rather than performance. We dance together, commune deeply, and experience the full flowering of what we've sparked. This is the peak of the ritual, our numbers swell with fresh participants to witness and engage with our creations.
THE EMBERS - MAY 10-17
As the fire dies down, we help restore the space while solidifying the connections and ideas birthed during The Flame. Listen back to live recordings, collaborate on new projects sparked during the ritual days, enjoy movie nights and intimate listening sessions on the big system. This is integration time—allowing what emerged to take root and flourish beyond La Briche transporting these precious burning embers to spark fresh flames around the world.
PRACTICAL ESENTIALs
Getting Here
La Briche sits in the Loire Valley countryside, about 40km from Tours. The closest train station is Langeais from where we are happy to provide pickups. If you're flying in, Tours, Nantes or Paris are your best options. We're happy to provide detailed transport information upon request and can help coordinate carpools from major cities.
Your Allocation
Each resident artist receives a limited number of tickets to distribute personally to friends and collaborators for the central 4 days. These aren't sold online—you choose who joins our laboratory during the ritual container. We'll discuss your allocation when you confirm your participation.
What We Cover
All meals during your stay (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation for the duration of your residency
Contribution toward your travel costs (to be negotiated in direct)
5 free days at La Briche for future use, these can be cashed in stand alone or be used as a discount on a longer residency or recording session. You are more than welcome to use the days before the event takes place if timetables are compatible.
Where You'll Stay
We provide accommodation throughout your residency—from onsite camping spots in the forest to shared indoor spaces depending on your needs and our overall capacity. The aim is for every participant to be as comfortable as possible so if you have a nice camping setup or a van and are able to bring it this could liberate valuable space for someone who has to travel further or is less well equipped, please keep this in mind when discussing accommodation arrangements.
Technical Support
Full backline, lighting, and sound engineering support available. We'll discuss your technical needs well in advance and coordinate during the build week.
What to Bring
Your instruments, equipment, art supplies—whatever feeds your practice
Weather-appropriate clothing (Loire Valley can be unpredictable)
Personal items for your stay
Open mind and collaborative spirit
THE REALITY
HOW THIS WORKS
Music Magic Myth operates completely independently—no government funding, no corporate sponsors, no external investors. We fund this laboratory out of our own pockets because we believe in what we're creating together.
Our goal isn't profit, but we do aim to break even. The 200 guests who join during our central days contribute through donations and food/drink purchases, which allows us to cover the costs of hosting resident artists, maintaining La Briche, and keeping this experiment alive.
When you distribute your ticket allocation, you're not just sharing access to an event—you're inviting people to support an autonomous creative laboratory.
This transparent approach keeps us independent and ensures that everyone who participates—whether as resident artist or invited participant—understands they're supporting something genuinely grassroots.
